  • A wide variety of software applications  are using the Microsoft .net Framework. Microsoft providing  different .net Framework versions as separate installations. While we installing Microsoft .net Framework 3.5 it   will automatically install the previous .net Framework versions as well for backward compatibility. On a computer that has .NET Framework 1.0 or .NET Framework 1.1, or .NET Framework 3.0,  if you uninstall the security update corresponding to KB928366, KB929729, or KB928367, the file version is rolled back to the last Service Pack.

This issue occurs because updates for the .NET Framework 1.0, for the .NET Framework 1.1, for Visual Studio .NET 2002, and for Visual Studio .NET 2003 were originally designed to work with Microsoft Windows Installer 2.0. The updates were not designed to work with Windows Installer 3.0. Windows Installer 3.0 is not supported on older operating systems, such as Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows Millennium Edition.

Microsoft .net Framework Cleanup Tool will remove all traces of the Microsoft .net Framework from the computer system. The tool is intended primarily to return your system to a known (relatively clean) state in case you are encountering .NET Framework installation, uninstallation, repair or patching errors so that you can try to install again.

This cleanup tool will delete shared files and registry keys used by other versions of the .NET Framework. If you run the cleanup tool, you will need to perform a repair/re-install for all other versions of the .NET Framework that are on your computer or they will not work correctly afterwards.
