Change Your Taskbar Group Size
Many of us do not like our taskbar cluttered with multiple applications that are running. To overcome this problem, Windows uses the automatic grouping feature that automatically groups two or more windows of the same program and labels the group with the name of the parent application. However, if you would like window grouping to take place only after a specific number of windows have been opened, you would have to tweak your registry settings. Once done, Windows will start window grouping only after a specific number of windows of the same application are open. Follow these steps to enable task bar grouping after a specific number of windows are open: Download the registry file from http://www.mediafire.com/?cyzyz4mzgim. This registry file can be used with Windows Vista as well.
Double-click the registry file to add the contents to the registry.
Restart your system.
Now click 'Start', type 'regedit' in the 'Search' box and press [Enter].
Go to registry folder->
'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced'
You will be able to view the 'TaskbarGroupSize' registry key.
Double-click it, type an appropriate integer and click 'OK'. If you type the integer '5', Windows will start automatic grouping after five windows of the same application are open.

Preventing Data Theft From the Swap File
By default, windows manages the swap file dynamically, meaning that Windows increases and decreases its size as needed. It continues to store data even after the PC has been shut down.Important thing is the swap file might contain confidential information.Even though this data is not easily accessible, there is a chance for hackers to read this data, with tools like ‘Poolfinder’. If your notebook is lost or stolen while you traveling , the risk is huge.
Ensure Windows destroys the swap data while shutting down.In XP Professional you have to edit the ‘Local Security Policy’ settings .
- Open ‘Start > Control Panel’ and click on ‘Performance and Maintenance’ and then on ‘Administrative Tools’.
- Open the ‘Local Security Policy’ by double-clicking on it.In the left pane tree structure, navigate to ‘Security Settings | Local Policies | Security Options’.
- In the right pane, double-click on the policy ‘Shutdown: Clear virtual memory pagefile’. In the following dialog, select ‘Enabled’ and confirm with ‘OK’.
In XP Home and Vista Home, you have to log on with administrator rights.
- In Windows XP Home, open the registry editor with ‘Start>| Run, ‘regedit.exe’ and a click on ‘OK’. Navigate to the key
‘HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management’.
- The right side will display the value‘Clear-PageFileAtShutdown’. Open it by double-clicking on it.
- In the ‘Edit DWORD Value’ dialog, set the ‘Value data’ field to ‘1’ and confirm with ‘OK’.
After restarting the system, Windows will henceforth overwrite the contents of the swap file ‘Pagefile.sys’ when shutting down.Depending on the file size and system performance, the shut down takes a few seconds longer.

Disable Tool Tips in Vista
In Vista when the user places the mouse pointer over a particular icon on the desktop, a tool tip pops up. This tool tip displays information about the icon.At a particular time, you might already know what each icon on your screen represents and hence the information might be unnecessary.
If you feel you no longer require tool tips, you can use this simple registry tweak to disable it. To do so:
Click “Start” and type in “regedit” in the “Search” box.
Browse to the “HKEY_CURRENT_USER|Software|Microsoft|Windows|CurrentVersion |Explorer |Advanced” registry key.
On the right pane, click the “ShowInfo Tip” registry key.
Click “Edit | Modify”.
Change the value to “0” in the “Valuedata” field.
Close the registry editor window and reboot your system for the changes to take effect.

Remove Unwanted Drivers and Services from Windows with TSDC
When you change hardware like a printer, scanner or internal components, even if you remove the related software, it will often still leave drivers and services behind that are loaded upon startup. TSDC - Total Service and Driver Control is a free tool which allows users to clean up their Windows systems from old or unneeded services and drivers - permanently!
You can directly run the TSDC exe file, it doesn’t require any installation .It will list all the services/drivers .You can also start/stop services and remove drivers if not needed.

Installing Programs Faster by Restarting the Explorer
Some installations and changes to system settings require you to reboot the computer. Most of the time, it is sufficient to restart only the system interface, i.e. Explorer. This process is much faster and is easy to perform.
Restarting Explorer ensures that the registry is re-read so that most of the newly installed programs accept it.An “actual" PC restart is required only for changes to hardware or system-level software like drivers and service packs for Windows.
To restart the Windows interface, open the task manager using [Ctrl] + [Shift] + [Esc], select the "explorer. exe" entry in the "Processes" tab and press [Del]—the program is stopped and automatically restarted.
It is even easier if you store the required commands in a batch file, thus making it easily accessible. To do this, create a new text file using an editor and type:
@echo off
taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe
explorer.exe
Save the file under any name with the extension “.bat” in the Windows folder and create a shortcut to it on the desktop or in the quick start bar. The script ends the “explorer.exe” process with the “taskkill” system command and “f”parameter, and restarts it immediately.
Caution : Save all data in running applications before using this command. The programs remain open during an Explorer restart; but you won't be able to access them in the event of a problem.
