PDF OwnerGuard Personal Edition
When you want to send a sensitive document via e-mail or make it available to many people, you have to consider what restrictions, if any, to apply to it so it can't be misused. PDF OwnerGuard is a reliable digital rights manager and data protection system.
Features
- The protection system lock your PDF documents to specific machines
- Control and apply limitations for viewers using a unique DRM component called License Manager. This minimizes viewers' DRM hassles by letting them access your DRM protected files offline.
- The encryption and protection method is based on an advanced 256-bit AES encryption system.
- These protected files are just like normal files, and users do not need to run any additional application to access them or to have
- You can place on your files include working time, expiry date, and print and save functions.
- Users can lock the files to specific computers, and encrypt and protect new output files too.
- Use of the clipboard, screen capture, dragging & dropping, and write can be restricted and create permissions.
- A license code can be generated by the user and copied to the clipboard by pressing a button, and you can share it with your intended recipients separately.
When compared to the security and encryption features provided by Adobe’s DRM method, OwnerGuard gives more for the buck. Apart from access limitations, license expiration and machine dependency support, it also provides support for encrypting newly created files. Creating a protected file grouped by projects is easy with a wizard that guides you through all the steps.
Once you have created a project, associate a license with it by placing limitations on any PDF files produced under that project, then add files, and finally click the ‘Protect Selected Files’ button. The License Manager lets you view, access and distribute your custom computer ID.

Steganos LockNote
How do you secure your passwords? You probably have countless accounts, passwords for your bank account information, web site passwords, social security number etc. Either you to note them on a piece of paper and deposit it on a safe place or you have to encrypt your passwords then save them in a file.
Steganos LockNote will change the way you work with confidential notes. Application and document in one: the mechanism to encrypt and decrypt a note is part of it. Secure, simple, independent. It is a free tool doesn’t’ have to be installed and therefore runs also from an USB stick. It works like a normal editor, but it doesn’t save a text file on the hard disk. The text entered in the editor is stored together with Locknote’s exe file. The tool encrypts your information using AES with a 256 bit key. If you want to make a copy of your password you just copy the complete exe file.Subsequent access to LockNote requires the correct password.
The idea behind LockNote is not to provide a full featured data storage, but a simple, secure and portable way to store any kind of text information. If you want to organize your data, you can create multiple copies of LockNote and rename them to identify the data they contain(e.g Personal.exe, Bank.exe).

TrueCrypt 5.1a
When it comes to protecting your data from prying eyes, TrueCrypt gets the nod from multiple reviewers. This open-source program can create encrypted files that appear as disk drives in Windows Explorer and other file managers. TrueCrypt also lets you encrypt an entire drive (such as a USB flash drive), a drive partition, and — for extra safety — hidden drive volumes.
Main Features:
- Creates a virtual encrypted disk within a file and mounts it as a real disk.
- Encrypts an entire partition or storage device such as USB flash drive or hard drive.
- Encrypts a partition or drive where Windows is installed (pre-boot authentication).
- Encryption is automatic, real-time (on-the-fly) and transparent.
- Provides two levels of plausible deniability, in case an adversary forces you to reveal the password:
1) Hidden volume (steganography – more information may be found here).
2) No TrueCrypt volume can be identified (volumes cannot be distinguished from random data). - Encryption algorithms: AES-256, Serpent, and Twofish. Mode of operation: XTS.

Encrypt a Folder or File in Windows XP SP2
You can use Windows’ inbuilt encryption for encrypting / decrypting your files The “cipher” command is used for this purpose. The
syntax for encrypting files is as follows, with X as the drive letter (use this command at a command prompt):cipher “X:\Path /E /A”
Windows XP and 2003 Server (unlike Windows 2000) allow the person who encrypts a file to add other user accounts that enable others to view his/her encrypted data.
You can also see which files are encrypted at a glance in Windows Explorer, if the Option to show encrypted or compressed NTFS files in color is enabled (this is done by going to Tools | Folder Options | View and then by checking the appropriate checkbox).
This will prevent all users—other than the one who encrypted the file or folder—from accessing it. The command for decrypting files
encrypted this way is: cipher “X:\Path /D /A”
To know more about Cipher comand visit here
If you need more flexibility in methods and speeds of encryption, use FineCrypt . It will allow you to choose from up to 10 different algorithms, and is freeware.

PixelCryptor
![]()
![]()
PixelCryptor is an encryption program that enables you to create encrypted archives containing one or more files, and protect the content without the need to remember any password. Instead of a password or key, the program uses an image file (any image) and generates a checksum from it, which acts as your key to lock and unlock the files in the archive.
If you share the archive by email (or other means) , the receiver needs to have a copy of the PixelCryptor software installed, as well as an exact duplicate of the image you used to encrypt the archive. To unlock an encrypted file, simply select the proper image when prompted and the content will be revealed. While this may sound very convenient, you should be aware that the slightest change to the original image (e.g editing, renaming), or loss of the image will leave your encrypted data inaccessible. Encryption algorithm not disclosed by the author
PixelCryptor offers an easy to use wizard to guide you through the process of encryption and decryption. You are free to encrypt as many files you like. Be sure to save your picture, because just like passwords, when the key is gone the package is locked for good. No backdoor, workaround or crowbar will get you in.
