How to Disable Automatic Restart in XP

If there is a major error on your system, Windows XP restarts the machine by default. This reboot occurs  to record the error message for troubleshooting purposes but at the same time may cause inconvenience as the system is restarted without a warning. To disable the automatic restart feature in Windows XP: 

Click on “Start|Settings|Control Panel”. The “Control Panel”window appears.
In the “Control Panel” window,double click the “System” icon

 

 

NOTE: Depending on the version of Windows XP you are using, you may not see the “System” icon. To view it, click the “Switch to Classic View” on the left pane.
In the “System Properties” window,click on the “Advanced” tab.
In the “Startup and Recovery” area and click “Settings”.
In the Startup and Recovery window,clear the “Automatically restart”check box.
Click “OK” in the “Startup and Recovery window”.
Click “OK” in the “System
Properties window”. After this when a problem causes a BSOD or another major error that halts the system, the PC will not automatically reboot. It will ask the user to reboot the system manually.
